In Foolish Wisdom, part of our David: After God’s Heart series, we follow David into the long in-between—the years of waiting, wandering, and trusting when obedience looked more like hesitation than heroism. Through caves, conflict, and quiet restraint, David shows us that real faith doesn’t always look bold or brilliant; sometimes it looks still. Like David—and like Jesus after him—we learn that what seems foolish to the world is often the deepest kind of wisdom: the courage to wait, the strength to forgive, and the peace that comes from trusting God’s timing over our own.

Man on the Run tells the story of David fleeing Saul’s relentless pursuit. Though David had every chance to strike back, he chose mercy over revenge, trusting God’s timing instead of seizing power. His restraint in the cave with Saul challenges us today: will we cling to control, or trust God to judge, lead, and reign? Ultimately, David points us to the true King—Jesus—whose victory is secure and whose Spirit empowers us to wait with courage.

The struggle for control is as old as humanity—from living room battles over the remote to Saul’s war against David in 1 Samuel 20. At its core lies the question: who gets to be king? This blog explores Saul’s resistance, Jonathan’s surrender, and the ultimate reign of Jesus Christ, the true King who alone brings freedom when we step off the throne of our own lives.

David’s story shows that while people value appearance and strength, God looks at the heart. In hidden years of faithfulness, He shaped David for kingship. Our unseen obedience matters too—and points us to Jesus, the greater King who carried God’s heart perfectly.
